Depth filtration is more than a nominal retention number
Industrial filter pads use a porous fibre matrix to capture particles throughout the thickness of the media. This depth-loading behaviour can provide useful contaminant-holding capacity and stable clarification where a thin surface screen would blind rapidly.
For a reliable recommendation, engineers must consider fibre composition, thickness, basis weight (GSM), porosity, wet and dry strength, flow behaviour, particle-retention objective and compatibility with the process fluid.
