Process requirements
Chemical filtration duties vary from removal of reactor solids and catalysts to polishing before packaging or protection of downstream equipment. A media recommendation begins with complete fluid composition—including minor solvents, oxidisers and cleaning chemicals—because compatibility can change sharply with concentration and temperature.
Viscosity, solids abrasiveness, particle shape and valuable-product recovery affect whether a pad, wound depth cartridge, spun cartridge, pleated element or reusable stainless-steel filter is most appropriate.
Process design
Start with bulk solids removal where needed, then use a depth stage for variable fine-particle loading. Activated carbon pads can be trialled where a confirmed adsorbable colour or odour compound is present. Pleated cartridges provide polishing, while stainless-steel elements suit selected high-temperature, high-pressure or reusable duties.
For batch processes, define endpoint by filtrate quality and pressure/flow. For continuous service, include duty/standby capacity and a safe change-out or backwash strategy.

Review every wetted material against the full formulation at actual temperature and concentration, then trial where interaction data is uncertain.
When the target dissolved compound is demonstrably adsorbed under the process pH, temperature, concentration and contact time.
It may suit temperatures, pressures, solvents or cleaning cycles that challenge polymer media, provided the selected alloy resists corrosion.
High solids, gels, precipitation after cooling, too-fine prefiltration, excessive flux or chemical swelling can all contribute.
