Process requirements

What the filtration duty must achieve

Food and beverage clarification must balance visual quality, flavour and aroma preservation, throughput, yield and hygiene. Incoming solids may include pulp, haze-forming particles, processing aids or precipitated material. A staged approach protects fine media and makes batch performance more repeatable.

Product-contact documentation is grade-specific. Customers should request the current declarations required for the product and market rather than treating a general “food grade” phrase as universal approval.

Process design

A staged filtration approach

Coarse screening or settling can remove bulk matter. Pulp pads, sparkler media or lenticular sheets then provide depth clarification. Activated carbon pads may be evaluated for selected colour or odour compounds, while PP pleated cartridges can polish clarified liquid before filling or a further validated barrier.

Temperature, dissolved gas and product composition should be maintained during trials so sensory and throughput results represent production.

Will finer media always improve beverage quality?

Not necessarily. It may remove desirable components, reduce yield or blind rapidly. Define the actual quality objective and trial staged options.

Can activated carbon pads affect flavour?

Yes. Activated carbon may adsorb desirable as well as undesirable compounds. Sensory and analytical trials are important.

What is needed for food-contact approval?

Request current, grade-specific composition and compliance documents applicable to the jurisdiction and conditions of use.

How can product loss be minimised?

Optimise area, pre-wetting, displacement or recovery volume, change-out endpoint and equipment drainage within hygienic process controls.
