Selection framework

Do not compare cartridges by micron label alone

Nominal and absolute ratings describe different performance claims and require a stated test method. Pleated surface area, depth gradient, fibre diameter, pore stability and the incoming particle distribution all influence real separation performance.

Confirm cartridge length, outside and inside diameter, end connection, gasket or O-ring material, flow direction, housing fit, operating temperature, differential pressure and sanitisation or cleaning method. Fluid compatibility must include every wetted component—not only the filter medium.

Questions engineers ask

Cartridge selection FAQs

What is the difference between pleated and depth cartridges?

Pleated cartridges use folded media for high area and are often selected for defined polishing duties. Spun and wound depth cartridges distribute solids through a thicker matrix and can suit higher dirt loads.

What does DOE mean?

Double open end describes a cartridge open at both ends, normally sealed in the housing using separate gaskets or knife-edge arrangements.

Can nominal and absolute micron ratings be compared directly?

No. The claim must include the efficiency definition and test method. A nominal label without test context is not equivalent to an absolute-rated element.

When should stainless steel be selected?

Consider it where temperature, chemical exposure, differential pressure, backwashing or reuse exceeds the practical limits of polymeric media—subject to metallurgy and pore validation.
